Vulcain was created in 1858 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by the Ditisheim family—Jacque, and his sons Maurice, Gaspard, and Aron. The Vulcain Cricket alarm watch is a very special one.  Harry S Truman was presented with a 14k gold version of the watch on the eve of him leaving office. Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, and Lyndon Johnson all were given Vulcain watches. Every US President except for JFK and George W Bush have received a Vulcain watch. During the 1970s the company was forced to liquidate because of poor sales. The quartz crisis was hurting them badly, this is when battery powered watches were first invented and everyone desired them.  The wearer didn’t have to wind them ever. The Vulcain watch that we bought at a Jewelry show is a limited edition watch and is number 100 out of 250. It has the original box and papers that came with the watch out of the factory. The watch is around a year old.
